Balinese ceremonial headdresses (Indonesia)

These traditional Balinese hair ornaments evoke the accessories worn during ceremonial dances and ritual theatre in Bali. Made of hand-painted wood, natural fibers, and old decorative coins, they were meant to be fixed in a bun thanks to their long wooden pin.

The finely painted faces are reminiscent of the dancers and characters

emblematic of traditional Balinese theatre. The old openwork coins bring a strong symbolic dimension, associated with protection, prosperity, and ceremonies.
